[Submitted by family]

We sadly announce the passing of Suzanne Joy [Harris] Miller in late July 2022. She was the beloved wife of Dr. Bernd Miller, and the proud mother of Dessa V. Miller, her husband Sasa, grandsons Dejan and Stellan, United Kingdom, and Daniel Millier, his wife, Rama, and grandson Zayn, and granddaughter Farida of Dubai, UAE.

She is also mourned by her six siblings, Martha Harris Myron and Paul of Lady Lake, Florida; Fred J Harris and LauraLee of Burks Falls, Canada; Patricia Harris Steiner and Holger of Hamburg, Germany; Jennifer R Harris of North Carolina, USA; Dr Edward Harris, Somerset, Bermuda; and Andrew L Harris and Ailyn, Somerset, Bermuda as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends in the US, UK, Germany, Spain and Bermuda.

Suzjoy, as she was fondly known as, was born in early 1948, just after the end of World War II, the third child of Cecil E Harris and Anna Clarine Harris, owners of the Sewing Machine Shop on Wesley Street, Hamilton.

She grew up in Bermuda, attended and graduated from Mount St Agnes, excelled at sports as a superb runner, and early on demonstrated an amazing artistic talent. In later years, she was to study and work with the legendary senior resident artist and wood sculpturer, Chesley Trott at the Bermuda Arts Centre at Dockyard.

True to her joyful name, she was a loving and popular individual, always ready to lend a helping hand, happy to spend time with numerous friends from school, her Sea Cadets group, and art classes.

Later leaving Bermuda to attend further studies in the UK for medical technology, she met her future husband, Bernd on an archaeological dig event during their student post-graduate summer vacation.

Suzanne and Bernd were married in Bermuda, then resided in Northern Germany for a number of years as Bernd finished his psychological studies, training and residency. Bernd founded the first outpatient facility for autistic individuals and their families in Germany. His institute served as a model for similar services to be established in Germany and neighbouring countries. Suzanne embraced this project wholeheartedly and supported it with inspiring energy. In 1985, they returned with their children to Bermuda for permanent residence. Here Bernd joined Ashton Associates, an international group of psychological practitioners.

In 2006, Suzanne and Bernd retired to Costa Blanca, Spain, where her amazing artistic talent flourished. Her popular works in wood, canvas, and pottery were prominently featured and sold locally and internationally by The ArtHouse Artists, Costa Blanca, an online gallery

Suzanne’s artistry, now owned by numerous appreciative individuals, will live on in beauty, memorialising her wonderful talent and exuberance for life. She is greatly missed.

“May God bless and keep you always, may your heart always be joyful, may your song always be sung, and may you stay Forever Young.”
